05-02-20 Update 07-02-20
We planted the porch garden in the beginning of May, so some of the plants are still trying to establish themselves. We have had a lot of hard downpours since we planted everything. I was bringing all of the pots inside at one point to keep them from getting drowned 😂. It's been a struggle, but they are starting to look good!
So my apartment has this cute little back porch area. It was completely empty for about 6 months after I moved in. Then my mom visited, and she brought some plant pots with an idea to start a garden on the porch.
Porch Garden Inspo:
She got these colorful red and blue buckets, super fun! Then she even picked up good dirt from a farmer friend to blend with the potting mix. Mom loves gardens ❤ so she wanted to give the plants the best chance to grow. Trevor drilled holes in the bottoms of all of the pots so they could drain. We planted most things from seeds. Potatoes, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, Lettuce, Spinach, Strawberries, Cucumbers, and Watermelons. We were pretty ambitious.
She also got these pretty flowers from a local plant shop along with some indoor plants.
They have so many of these cute bicycle plant stands! You can find them just about anywhere. We got the colorful pots from Walmart!
After we planted all of the seeds, we decided to make some little instruction labels. To keep track of how often thing should be watered and the approximate harvest times.
Here's Faith being cute, relaxing outside the day after we planted everything.
Things started to pop up after about two weeks (the tomato, one bell pepper, and strawberry plant were already started when we planted them).
It's only been a month, but most of the seeds have sprouted! Only one pot is really struggling. Now the girls love to take pictures on the porch because of all of the greenery. I have to say the potatoes grew the fastest and the biggest, they are really easy. The rain did pound them down a couple times though! I am definitely no expert, but it's been fun to start this garden project. Hopefully I can learn and be even more successful with plants in the future 🌱.
